Ratt - Dancing Undercover - Vinyl LP on Atlantic Records 1986

Ratt - Dancing Undercover - Vinyl LP on Atlantic Records 1986

Dancing Undercover also proved to be the band's heaviest album ever released, most notably with the song "Body Talk". This lead many "Ratt N' Rollers" (what their fanbase is colloquially referred to as) to infer that Ratt was headed to a more thrash metal sound comparable to Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. This proved not to be the case as the band added a bluesier element to their signature glam metal sound throughout their succeeding three albums.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Hold On - Vinyl album on Brothers Records

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country-folk-rock band that has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California in 1966. The group's membership has had at least a dozen iterations over the years, including a period between from 1976 to 1981 when the band performed and recorded as The Dirt Band. Constant members since the early days are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmy Fadden. Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen was with the band from 1966 to 1986 and returned in 2001. Keyboardist Bob Carpenter joined the band in 1977.

Anson Funderburgh And The Rockets featuring Sam Miers - Rack'em Up - Vinyl album on Black Top / Demon Records

In recent years, Dallas-based guitarist Anson Funderburgh has taken his band the Rockets out of the clubs and onto the festival stages with his critically acclaimed recordings for the BlackTop label out of New Orleans. With Jackson, MS-native Sam Myers delivering the vocals and harmonica treatments, this band mixes up a powerful gumbo of Texas jump blues and Delta blues that can't be found anywhere else. Funderburgh and his Rockets are a particularly hard working band, performing across the U.S. and Europe nearly 300 nights a year.
Little River Band - Time Exposure - Vinyl album on Capital Records 1981

Little River Band - Time Exposure - Vinyl album on Capital Records 1981

When Little River Band formed in 1975, Australia immediately took notice. The key band members were already well-known to Australians. Lead singer Glenn Shorrock had made his name in mid-'60s group the Twilights, a Beatles-sounding pop group who scored a national number one record with their version of the Velvelettes' "Needle in a Haystack." When that group broke up in 1969 Shorrock became lead singer of Axiom, whose "A Little Ray of Sunshine" is still an Australian classic rock staple. LRB's Beeb Birtles had been the bass player for a popular Twilights-era pop group called Zoot (Rick Springfield was a latter member). When that group broke up, in search of musical credibility, Birtles auditioned as the bass player, but was instantly elevated to a front-line position alongside Graham Goble. Even LRB's manager was well-known. Glenn Wheatley had been the bassist with another of Australia's bands, and possibly its most legendary, the Masters Apprentices. Given all that background, when Shorrock and Birtles revealed they were forming a group with Goble, managed by Wheatley, it was major event in Australian music.
Alex Masi - Attack Of The Neon Shark - Vinyl album on Metal Blade records 1989

Alex Masi - Attack Of The Neon Shark - Vinyl album on Metal Blade records 1989

Italian-born Alex Masi began his musical undertakings at the age of eight and was playing in bands by his teens. In 1984 he formed the group Dark Lord in Venice. The group released two EP's before calling it quits. In 1987 he released his first full album, Fire in the Rain, with his new band, Masi. The group's second album, Downtown Dreamers, came out shortly after. By this time Masi had decided to try out his hand and recording as a solo artist. His first album, Attack of the Neon Shark, was released in 1989, and began garnering him considerable critical acclaim and even a Grammy nomination. He recorded another solo album, Vertical Invader, shortly after that release. Next came a slow period for Masi, but the band did release two albums in the 1990s. Masi the man's next release was a tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach called In the Name of Bach. 2001 saw the release of Eternal Struggle under the Masi banner.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - The Pacific Age - Vinyl LP on A&M Records

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - The Pacific Age - Vinyl LP on A&M Records

The Pacific Age is the last OMD album to feature founding member Paul Humphreys (although The Best of OMD does collect a pair of subsequent singles). With producer Stephen Hague returning and guests Graham and Martin Weir elevated to full-time members, OMD aggressively targets the American pop market cultivated with Crush and the Top Ten single "If You Leave." With the Weir's horns and a trio of female backing vocalists, the music on The Pacific Age sounds larger than life (the opening "Stay" in particular), a trait common to popular music in the mid-'80s. The added production value and better material represent an improvement over Crush, despite the opinion of some that The Pacific Age is a bland sellout. It's true that tracks like "(Forever) Live and Die," "Shame," and "Goddess of Love" are more style than substance, but it's a style that plays to OMD's mastery of melody and mood. The album follows the familiar trend of alternating tracks sung by Andy McCluskey and Humphreys, which effectively shifts the mood from energetic to understated often enough that the material feels fresher than it might otherwise. On the quieter tracks -- "Dead Girls" and "The Pacific Age" -- the ghost of their earlier work reappears. The band also continues to string snippets of sound together to create interesting patterns; nothing on here is as jarring as the experimental Dazzle Ships, and tapping into Martin Luther King's legacy on "Southern" might be overreaching the limited range of pop, but the band does bring their technical skill to bear on a few cuts
David Olney - Deeper Well - Vinyl Album

David Olney - Deeper Well - Vinyl Album

The third album from David Olney, Nashville's resident minstrel. Olney is a quietly charismatic and gruffly intense performer of charm and conviction. Although his songs have been covered by Mimi Farina, Steve Young, Townes Van Zandt and others, there's no substitute for David's own roughhewn, raw, end-of-the-world ì vocals, just the right voice to present his stories.
Underground Zero - Through The Looking Glass - Vinyl LP on Flickife Records

Underground Zero - Through The Looking Glass - Vinyl LP on Flickife Records

The nucleus of UZO was started in 1979 by Andrew Rix (bass/vocals), Adrian Rix (keyboards) and Judi Griggs (vocals) who, together with drummer Brian Savage and guitarist Karl Dawson. From 1981, now known as Ground Zero the group underwent several major changes. Brian left and was replaced by Mike (Mel) Melnyk and guitarist Paul Holden joined. In 1983 Mel left and was replaced by Sean Holden. The band also featured on the UKs Tommy Vance’s Friday Night Rock Show on Radio 1, during 1983-85 the band developed a large following in the new Psychedelic scene. At this point the name became Underground Zerø to avoid confusion with a R & B group in the London Area. The performed at the large open air concert Anglia for Africa along which also featured Hawkwind, Aswad, Magnum. Underground Zero also performed at the last Stonehenge festival with Hawkwind and has featured on Hawkwind, Friends and Relations albums. Although UZ0 never split up they stopped performing live in 1994. In 2005, they resumed live performances, doing 3 gigs in the UK and released a new CD called "Powerplay." In 2006, they performed at the Eastern Haze Festival in Somerlyton Hall, UK.
